5 Reasons To Modernize Your Home Records Now

As the Kabinet CPA I can tell you that paper records have gone by the way of the dinosaur and Kabinet is a major part of this more efficient new world.

When I started out as a CPA the world was entirely paper so I know the drudgery first hand. Back then there was no thought or concept of digital records.

I provide this context to highlight how far the world has come by eliminating paper but this is still predominantly in the business sense. Prior to Kabinet, most homeowners were keeping their home records in a paper folder, usually in their basement or possibly for those a little bit savier on Google Drive or Dropbox.

Below are five reasons to modernize your home records now.

1. If you’re out of town you’re in trouble

This is the exact reason why Daniel created Kabinet. He was away on a trip and needed to look something up for his home. He knew exactly where the mortgage paper was in his desk at home because he was stranded since he was out of town.

2. If a natural disaster hits you’re in trouble

Sadly, hurricanes are getting more extreme by the year and wildfires are raging. This one is self explanatory – you need to modernize because if your home has a problem there is a very low chance your folder of papers is going to survive.

3. If your family needs to access your records, they won’t understand your system

Let’s say you keep immaculate records at home. They are organized in a way that makes sense for you and are most likely in a hidden place. If there comes a time where your family needs to review something related to your home, it is going to take them an awfully long time to find the records and then decode your system.

4. You need to keep track of your all time home spending

Papers and organization are one thing but tracking the overall amount you’ve spent is also extremely important. Whether for your own budgeting, tracking capital expenditures or sharing something with your accountant, Kabinet allows you to put a cost with the document itself so it is one solid record. This eliminates the need for file storage plus a spreadsheet plus a budgeting app and everything in between.

5. You have too many systems going at once

Keeping some papers in one folder, some receipts in the garage, a spreadsheet on your laptop and an old school cloud storage account is disorganized. This one doesn’t require further explanation, you know it.

We continue to work towards our goal of having every single homeowner in the world not only digitize their home records but make them work for them by using the Kabinet platform.

Kabinet is much more than file storage – it is a system of organization for both yourself and your loved ones. To be able to easily keep track of every important document and dollar spent on your home is a miracle and something that was not possible in my early years.

I could go on and on but I just wanted to write this article to remind you to use modern technology to your benefit at all times.. Especially in our case when it doesn’t cost you a penny.
